Sugimoto & U2

Nice to see a Sugimoto photo on the front of the new U2 album No Line On The Horizon - I guess he has to look for new markets now that gallery prices have fallen from insane to merely outrageous

Oh - and I think I prefer the CD cover image to the contents as far as U2's latest effort goes....

(BTW Should be back to more regular posts hopefully - life has just been rather crazy)

Yes, this album sucks, the music is so horribly empty. Sugimoto really shouldn't sale this picture for such a poor album, but anyway, who can resist?

I agree about the music, never been a big fan of U2...
Mike Johnston had an interesting post about the use of this image on T.O.P.

Nevermind the music (also not being a big fan of U2), why is no one a bit more outraged by another artist "selling out."
Sugimoto, shame on you. However, to those whom may not be familiar with Sugimoto's work, this might be an eye opener to some. What I believe: this beautiful image is not going to be appriciated by the mass majority of U2 fans. It will just be swallowed by the masses and at best be viewed as all other album art: for sale on a t-shirt at another concert.

i don't think that Sugimoto has to worry about cash too much... even when prices are falling in the art world. he actually didn't receive any money for the use of this image on the album cover - http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/fa20090320a1.html
i really don't care about U2 but it's nice to see a billboard in my hood with a great image on it.

Sugimoto has been busy exploring, or should that be channeling?, Fox Talbot.
